Building an innovative, tailored community-based mental health service: feedback on the experience of the Espace Santé Trans listening service

The psychological listening service team at Espace Santé Trans, a member association of Trans Youth Trajectories, has published its results in the journal Psychologies Genre & Société.

Through the presentation of five clinical situations – two of which involve minors – the authors illustrate the operation of the listening service, situated at the intersection of community work and the mental health professional network built by the association.

The situations of Robin, 14, and Antoine, 16, as well as their families, are discussed. They speak to the diversity of parental configurations regarding the adolescent’s trans identity and help outline the role of the association’s psychologists within these family arrangements. In each case, the aim is to allow the adolescent to work through their own issues surrounding transition within a facilitating community space, and to be guided as best as possible according to their needs and goals toward follow-up care that is also adapted to parental attitudes.
