The multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) of Trans Youth Trajectories, coordinated by Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, provide a collegial support forum for health professionals caring for trans and gender-questioning adolescents. They offer a space to discuss clinical situations encountered by professionals supporting the families of trans and gender-questioning adolescents. Medical, psychological, social, ethical, and lived-experience expertise come together to inform decisions about care pathways, particularly when a medical intervention is being considered (initial prescription of puberty blockers or hormones, or gender-affirming surgery). These MDTs do not replace routine follow-up or the clinical relationship with the young person and their family: they aim to improve practice, support the individualized assessment of requests, encourage the sharing of experience between teams, and ensure constant attention to free and informed consent, evolving autonomy, life circumstances, and the overall health of the adolescents concerned. These MDTs have been discussed in a scientific article published here.
If you are a health professional and would like to submit the situation of a minor in your care to the MDT for an opinion prior to prescribing puberty blockers or hormones, or prior to gender-affirming surgery, please note that the MDT will only issue an opinion if both the physician providing somatic care (endocrinologist, gynecologist, pediatrician, general practitioner, etc.) and the mental health professional (psychiatrist, child and adolescent psychiatrist, psychologist) supporting the minor attend the MDT (by videoconference). In addition, the health professional must have obtained the consent of the holders of parental authority, and sought the consent of the minor concerned, for the requested care to be discussed at the MDT. Priority is given to cases from the Île-de-France (Paris) region. The MDT meets once a month, on a Monday afternoon. To request the MDT’s opinion, please send an email to catherine.lemene@aphp.fr. During the meeting, you must share only the information strictly necessary for your patient’s care and, in particular, take care not to disclose any details that could identify them (such as their last name) to participants who are not part of their care team (as defined by Article L. 1110-12 of the French Public Health Code).
If you are the person concerned by a care request presented at the MDT, you and/or your parents may ask to take part in the MDT by videoconference. You will only be able to attend the part of the meeting devoted to discussing your situation. During that time, you and/or your parents may speak to share your point of view, if you wish. To ask to take part in the MDT, please make the request directly to the physician or mental health professional supporting you. Conversely, your right to privacy and to the confidentiality of information concerning you (Article L. 1110-4 of the French Public Health Code) allows you to object to your situation being discussed at the MDT.
