n%20T.%22%2C%22lastName%22%3A%22Roberts%22%7D%5D%2C%22abstractNote%22%3A%22INTRODUCTION%3A%20Regular%20physical%20activity%20is%20associated%20with%20a%20wide%20range%20of%20health%20benefits%20in%20youth.%20While%20previous%20studies%20have%20identified%20disparities%20in%20physical%20activity%20among%20youth%20by%20gender%20identity%20and%20sexual%20attraction%2C%20these%20have%20seldom%20been%20explored%20in%20Canadian%20youth.%5CnMETHODS%3A%20Data%20from%20the%202019%20Canadian%20Health%20Survey%20on%20Children%20and%20Youth%20were%20used%20to%20assess%20prevalence%20of%20and%20time%20spent%20in%20organized%20sports%20participation%2C%20total%20physical%20activity%20and%20active%20transportation%20by%20gender%20identity%20%28non-cisgender%20vs.%20cisgender%29%20among%20youth%20aged%2012%20to%2017%2C%20and%20by%20sexual%20attraction%20%28nonheterosexual%20attraction%20vs.%20heterosexual%20attraction%29%20among%20youth%20aged%2015%20to%2017.%5CnRESULTS%3A%20There%20was%20no%20difference%20in%20average%20minutes%20of%20total%20physical%20activity%20per%20week%20between%20non-cisgender%20and%20cisgender%20Canadian%20youth.%20Non-cisgender%20youth%20%28which%20represent%200.5%25%20of%20the%20population%29%20averaged%20significantly%20fewer%20minutes%20of%20organized%20sports%20per%20week%20than%20their%20cisgender%20counterparts.%20There%20was%20some%20evidence%20of%20increased%20active%20transportation%20to%20school%20among%20non-cisgender%20youth%2C%20but%20insufficient%20power%20to%20detect%20significant%20differences.%20Canadian%20youth%20reporting%20any%20nonheterosexual%20attraction%20%28which%20represent%2021.2%25%20of%20the%20population%2C%20including%20mostly%20heterosexual%20youth%29%20were%20less%20likely%20to%20be%20regularly%20physically%20active%20and%20participate%20in%20organized%20sports%20than%20youth%20reporting%20exclusive%20heterosexual%20attraction.%20Differences%20were%20larger%20among%20males%20than%20females.%20Males%20reporting%20nonheterosexual%20attraction%20were%20more%20likely%20to%20use%20active%20transportation%20to%20get%20to%20school%20than%20their%20heterosexual%20counterparts.%5CnCONCLUSION%3A%20Non-cisgender%20youth%20and%20youth%20reporting%20nonheterosexual%20attraction%20tended%20to%20participate%20less%20in%20organized%20sports%20than%20their%20counterparts%2C%20but%20may%20have%20engaged%20in%20more%20active%20transportation.%20Mitigating%20the%20barriers%20associated%20with%20sport%20participation%20could%20increase%20physical%20activity%20among%20these%20groups.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222024-02%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22eng%2C%20fre%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.24095%5C%2Fhpcdp.44.2.02%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%222368-738X%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22LRRERZTX%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222024-02-27T09%3A51%3A45Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
