The living conditions of trans people and the ways they are cared for require information and awareness-raising about how to welcome trans people in order to adopt good practices for respectful care of trans identities.
The trainings to prioritize are those developed by or in collaboration with trans people’s associations, in order to reconcile the relevance of the content with the principles of health democracy.
Trainings on welcoming trans people
- The association OUTrans offers training and awareness sessions on trans identities and welcoming trans people. These workshops are aimed at all staff of structures that welcome trans people, including medical, paramedical, and social professionals, companies, LGBTQI+ associations, social support associations, education professionals, public administrations, support structures for people in precarious situations, and associations fighting HIV/AIDS and other STIs. Access the OUTrans training offer.
- The association Acceptess-T offers training on medico-social support for trans people, supporting trans people in precarious situations, supporting trans migrants, HIV accompaniment, STI prevention, and sexual health. These trainings are aimed at medico-social support structures, healthcare structures, and associations. To access Acceptess-T’s training offer, you can write to pole.formation@acceptess-t.com.
- Also available is the MOOC from the University of Montréal, “Trans·diversité 2 : santé et services sociaux”, a free online course designed to raise learners’ awareness of practices to better meet the needs of trans and non-binary people in health and social services, and to help develop the skills of relevant professionals. Self-paced modules like this MOOC can help participants gain initial awareness before more comprehensive training offered by trans community associations.
Training for hormone prescription
- The Réseau de Santé Trans (ReST) offers trainings led by network members focused on hormone therapy, primarily for prescribers. These trainings allow practitioners to begin primary prescription practices and continue to learn about hormone therapy via shared professional experience, which remains central to their ethical approach. In Île-de-France (Parisian region), these trainings are provided by physicians regularly working with trans people together with four ReST member associations: Acceptess-T, Espace Santé Trans, the FLIRT – Front Transfem, and OUTrans. Pre-register for the next training offered by the Trans Health Network.
Training in mental health support
Espace Santé Trans offers training focused on welcoming and supporting mental health, with content that can be tailored to specific needs. Follow-up options may include practice sharing groups and case discussion sessions in small groups, conducted either in-person or online. Access the Espace Santé Trans training offer.
University diploma
The University Diploma (DU) in care for gender identity (commonly known as DUTrans) aims to provide theoretical, medical, clinical, legal, and societal knowledge needed to identify, diagnose, and guide people presenting with gender identity concerns and to understand their care pathways.
