g%2C%20life%20satisfaction%2C%20and%20resilience.%20Some%20studies%20observe%20that%20a%20lack%20of%20parental%20support%20can%20contribute%20to%20transition%20interruption%20%28or%20detransition%29.%20However%2C%20little%20is%20known%20about%20how%20parental%20support%20interacts%20with%20the%20experiences%20of%20youth%20who%20detransition.%20This%20article%20examines%20how%20parental%20support%20and%20attitudes%20are%20perceived%20by%20youth%20who%20have%20detransitioned%2C%20with%20particular%20attention%20to%20the%20type%20of%20support%20received%20from%20pre-transition%20to%20detransition.%20Between%202020%20and%202022%20we%20conducted%2025%20semi-structured%20interviews%20with%20youth%20aged%2016%20to%2025%20who%20had%20started%20a%20medical%20or%20social%20transition%20and%20discontinued%20it%2C%20coming%20from%20the%20US%2C%20Canada%2C%20Europe%2C%20and%20Indonesia.%2020%20were%20assigned%20female%20at%20birth%3B%205%20were%20assigned%20male%20at%20birth.%20We%20conducted%20a%20thematic%20analysis%20and%20a%20retrospective%20longitudinal%20analysis.%20We%20have%20observed%20four%20distinct%20support%20trajectories%3A%20the%20stable%20trajectory%20of%20non-support%2C%20the%20stable%20trajectory%20of%20support%2C%20the%20progressive%20support%20trajectory%2C%20and%20the%20unstable%20trajectory%20of%20support.%20Only%20stable%20%28very%20rare%20in%20our%20sample%29%2C%20and%20progressive%20trajectories%20of%20support%20seem%20beneficial.%20Others%20may%20foster%20doubts%2C%20low%20self-esteem%2C%20imposed%20gender%20or%20sexuality%2C%20secret%20transitions%2C%20or%20precarity.%20Parental%20support%20can%20impact%20detrans%20youth%20trajectories%20of%20transition%20and%20detransition%3B%20therefore%2C%20interventions%20should%20help%20parents%20better%20support%20their%20gender-nonconforming%20children.%20Further%20research%20is%20needed%20to%20determine%20if%20lack%20of%20parental%20support%20can%20be%20a%20contributing%20factor%20to%20detransition.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222025-10-31%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22en%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1007%5C%2Fs10826-025-03197-7%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%221573-2843%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fdoi.org%5C%2F10.1007%5C%2Fs10826-025-03197-7%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22VYPRXAK3%22%2C%22A5FN22T5%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222025-11-03T11%3A43%3A24Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
